Poise and grace on show at ShadowFox Equestrian training competition
Event combined with market day to showcase the hospitality of the ShadowFox family.

ShadowFox Equestrian held a showjumping training competition on Saturday, February 26.
Combined with a market day to give horse lovers a chance to mingle with small business owners, the day served as an open invitation for the public to get a taste of the ShadowFox experience. Open to all yards, riders were able to test their jumping abilities from entry-level heights to steeper challenges.

After 40 and 50cm ‘pole on the ground’ runs, the competition rounds began with a 60cm Speed and Precision class. Donna Cogill on Serena placed third, Katharina Reichert on ShadowFox Curly placed second while Kayla Jansen van Rensburg on Howzat trotted away with the first-place rosette.

“ShadowFox runs as a non-competitive yard for the most part, as I believe it is more about the horses than the sport and I try to share that mentality with all my students. I also like to invite other yards around the area to join, especially if they are nervous riders or have young or inexperienced horses,” said ShadowFox Equestrian owner, Farran Baker.

This emphasis on the four-legged beasts would be proven apt as horses Billie, Howzat and ShadowFox Miss Daisy would shine in the 70 and 80cm competitions. Kayla would ride Howzat to third place in the 70cm class while Tristan Du Plessis rode ShadowFox Miss Daisy to second in the 70cm and third in the 80cm, respectively. Ellah Coetzee won both the 70 and 80cm events on Billie, adding a second place in the 80cm on Howzat for good measure.

Farran opened ShadowFox Equestrian in September 2020 with three horses, an empty yard, no paddocks, and little to no jumping equipment.

Thanking the participants, Farran said, “I am truly grateful for all the support from the staff and friends of ShadowFox, I wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without them. Thank you to Element Red Fire and Rescue for being our paramedics on standby, as well as AfriForum for keeping an eye on things for the event.”
