Gauteng’s strongest men lift for a good cause

For those who missed out, the anticipation now builds for next year’s event set to be even bigger and better.

Some of the toughest athletes in Gauteng gathered at The Irish Rock Pub & Restaurant for the Gauteng Strongest Championship 2025 on Saturday, March 1.

The event, which supported the Cansa Shavathon, saw competitors pushing their limits in a thrilling showcase of raw strength and endurance.

Spectators were treated to a variety of intense Strongman challenges, including the silver dollar deadlift, where competitors hoisted massive weights, and the log lift for reps, which tested upper-body strength as athletes lifted heavy logs overhead.

The farmer’s walk combines grip strength and endurance as participants carry heavy loads across a set distance, while the Sandbag to Shoulder requires explosive strength and precision. The highlight of the day was the truck pull, where athletes showcased incredible determination by dragging a heavy vehicle using nothing but their own strength.

Beyond the fierce competition, the event raised awareness and support for Cansa through the Shavathon initiative. Many attendees participated by shaving their heads or donating towards cancer support efforts, reinforcing the event’s strong sense of community.
