Welties win West Rand Soccer League title

This achievement is a proud moment that the school, coaches, players, and supporters will remember for many years to come.

Weltevreden Park Primary School’s (Welties) first soccer team have made their school proud after being crowned the 2026 West Rand Boys Soccer League champions.

This follows an outstanding performance that the team gave in the semi-finals and final, which were held by the West Rand Protea Primary School Football Association at Crawford International Ruimsig on Thursday, May 28.

The tournament featured the top four schools in the league: Welties, Panorama Primary School, Laerskool Nooitgedacht and Arthur Matthews Primary School.

In one of the semi-finals, Panorama and Arthur Matthews played to a 2–2 draw. However, Panorama advanced to the final after the tournament board ruled that Arthur Matthews had fielded players who were not eligible to play.

Welties also booked their place in the final, where they faced Panorama in a tightly contested match.

Players from both teams gave their best efforts during the match, but neither could score, ending the final at 0–0, and the winner had to be decided on penalties. During the shootout, Welties kept their composure and won 4–3 to lift the trophy and be crowned champions.

Welties has celebrated the victory, thanking the players, coaches, Mr Mills and Mr Noonam for their support, dedication, and hard work that have helped guide the team to success.

The boys represented their school with pride, passion, and discipline throughout the season and were rewarded with a well-earned championship title.
