Football academy shows strong performance in league

Local soccer academy records mixed results during league.

As the Rand Central Football Association League progresses, Flying Eagles Football Academy continues to show consistency and determination, delivering balanced results across all age-group divisions this past weekend, May 16–17.
The matches took place at Laerskool Culembeeck, where parents, supporters, and soccer enthusiasts gathered in large numbers to cheer on the young stars.

The first game on Saturday started with the Flying Eagles U8 team losing 8–0 to Mamelodi Sundowns. The U10 Blue Flying Eagles team made this loss up by beating First Kick 5–0. For U11, Flying Eagles won 7–0 against Education Through Soccer.

On Sunday, the U13A team saw Transition lose 1–2 to Flying Eagles, but in U13B, Panorama beat Flying Eagles 2–1. In the U15 match, Flying Eagles fell 1–3 to Double Classic.

Samkelo Tshabalala from the U10 Blue team and Ayabonga Nkosi from the U11 team are currently joint top scorers with seven goals each from two matches.

Head coach of the academy, Mpho Sekhoanyane, said all the players have settled in well in their respective teams. They now need to work on each division intentionally in terms of instilling their philosophy.

He said the U8 side will focus on improving their basic understanding of the game, while the U10 Green team has been encouraged to play more as a collective instead of relying on individual efforts. The U10 Blue squad is working on adapting to different match situations, and the U11 team is striving to build stronger team synergy rather than depending on moments of individual brilliance.

For the U13A, coaches are demanding more aggression and urgency in attack, while the U13B team continues to sharpen its technical abilities. The U15 squad, meanwhile, is concentrating on physical conditioning and better control of the tempo of matches.

“We are looking forward to instilling our five-point philosophy in all our teams within the next three months,” Sekhoanyane said, emphasising the importance of discipline, teamwork, technical growth, and strong football values across every division.
