Runners go 'naked' at Florida Running Club's interclub time trials

The no watch challenge makes for a fun inter-club time trial event.

Several running clubs from across the West Rand gathered at the Florida Running Club on Tuesday, May 26, for an exciting interclub time-trial challenge.

Runners from numerous clubs like Roodepoort, Panorama, Krugersdorp Road Runners, Mogale Citizens, Khosa, and Florida came out for a night of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.

However, there was a trick to it. Runners were challenged to a no-watch run called the Naked Run, in which participants attempted to predict their 4km time without using a watch.

The night began with registrations, during which participants predicted their times. Only after the run were their actual times recorded and the differences compared to see who came closest to their predicted time.

Aubrey Setlhare and Maryna Bijker from Roodepoort Athletics Club were the fastest man and woman overall and won prizes.

Andre Atkins, also from Roodepoort Athletics Club, Dimakatso Shai from Panorama Running Club, Eben Kotze from Florida and Stian de Wet from Krugersdorp Road Runners won the closest times.

There was also a lucky draw for other winners.
