Ithuba cyclists conquer Die Groot Trap

The event offered something for everyone on a day filled with action and adventure, from young riders taking their first steps into the sport to experienced cyclists tackling longer distances.

Members of Ithuba Development MTB travelled to Pretoria on May 23 to take part in the annual Die Groot Trap cycling event.

Held at Die Bosveld Venue in Doornpoort, the event attracted cyclists from across Gauteng and beyond. Riders had a choice of several distances, including 15km, 30km and 60km mountain bike routes, while experienced cyclists could tackle the 80km gravel route. Young riders were also able to join the fun in the 2km kiddies’ event.

The Ithuba riders, a prominent South African cycling academy and non-profit dedicated to uplifting youth through mountain biking, enjoyed the opportunity to compete on a different course and gain valuable experience against cyclists from a variety of clubs and teams.

The routes took riders along gravel roads and off-road trails, providing a test of both endurance and bike-handling skills. The team proudly represented their riding programme throughout the day despite the challenges they faced in the course.
