Piles of concrete, multiple holes and leftover pipes remain on Buuren Street in Witpoortjie more than a year after Johannesburg Water (JW) repaired a leaking pipe and drainage system in March last year.

The Roodepoort Record previously reported on the matter on July 2, 2025, when JW communications officer Nolwazi Dhlamini assured residents that the issue would be resolved before July 6, 2025.

At the time, resident Willem Grundling, who lives at 5 Buuren Street, said the matter had been reported numerous times without any action being taken.
Grundling said motorists are now forced to use a single lane, while holes left behind continue to collect water in front of a resident’s house. He added that the street name sign was removed during the repairs and has not been repainted or replaced.

Ward 71 councillor Rene Benjamin said she is aware of the holes and excavations, but did not comment on whether the matter had been escalated.
The Record again approached JW regarding the prolonged delays in addressing the issue, but no response had been received by the time of publication.
