Parktown Girls celebrate successful soccer season
PARKTOWN – Soccer players from Parktown High School for Girls won numerous awards at the JVW Schools League awards.
Parktown High School for Girls won numerous awards at the Janine van Wyk (JVW) Girls School League awards, marking the end of a successful soccer season.
The head of sport at the school, Catherine van Eyk said, “Our soccer girls had such a successful season. All three of our A teams were invited to the JVW awards dinner where the top soccer players and teams in the Greater Johannesburg region and Pretoria are celebrated.”
The JVW Girls Football Development Programme, which includes the schools league, was founded by Janine van Wyk, who plays for Banyana Banyana. The league is now in its sixth year and has 147 teams who compete in it.
The school’s 1st team and U15s A team were awarded trophies for winning their respective leagues and the U15s A team were also awarded medals for placing third in Gauteng.
Ayanda Mnyembane (U15s A team) was awarded a trophy for the most promising junior player in Gauteng. Francesca Dobrovolsky and Shakeerah Jacobs were selected for the Top 11, which is the top 11 players in Gauteng. Jacobs was also awarded Player of the Year among 3 000 other girls who participated in the league.
