Bramley SAPS targets drugs and weapons in Pretoria Main Road operation
Female officers take the lead as 86 people and 59 vehicles are searched during a targeted road safety and crime-prevention drive.
Bramley SAPS conducted a stop-and-search operation on Pretoria Main Road as part of Operation Basadi, with officers checking motorists and vehicles for illegal items and promoting road safety on August 27.
During the operation, officers stopped and searched 59 motor vehicles and 86 people, according to an official report.

Captain Bridget Kgomotso Dladla said the operation focused on keeping motorists, pedestrians, and the community safe.
“Today is an Operation Basadi whereby our focus is that we are doing a roadblock, stop and search. We are focusing on drugs. We are focusing on anyone who has any illegal objects on them, in terms of a firearm or a weapon,” she said.
Officers also inspected vehicles for prohibited items and tested motorists for suspected drunk driving.

Dladla said the operation was successful because drivers worked well with them.
“It is a success because the people cooperate with us,” she said.
The roadblock was only one phase of the initiative, with Dladla noting that officers would extend stop-and-search activities and visibility patrols into the broader community.
“We are still going to do stop and search as we are done with the roadblock right now. So we are going to do visibility in the community so that the people can see that the police are doing our work,” she said.
Alongside the enforcement actions, officers distributed 150 pamphlets.
Warrant Officer Matseke Nchabeleng said the pamphlets aimed to help community members understand key social and legal issues.
“The pamphlets were mostly about domestic violence, Men For Change, and criminal procedure. That’s what the pamphlet is for, so the community can be aware of what’s happening around them,” she said.
Nchabeleng added that Operation Basadi also showed the role women play in policing and positions of authority.
“It’s good to see the women in authority because any woman can be in authority, regardless of colour, age, race, culture,” she said.
The operation formed part of SAPS’ efforts to combat crime, improve visibility, and promote safety in the community.
