Organiser Hanneke Rauch said the workshop, called the Buzz Mermaids and Pirates Drama, involved a “quest”, where children had to get a magical coconut back from the nasty Captain Hook, and help their friend, the Seasick Pirate; the coconut being their “only hope”.
Rauch said this was a new kind of performing arts activity for South African children, between the ages of five and nine, as it gave them a chance to act, dance, sing and explore in an interactive adventure.
She added, “With fun, interaction, high-energy, and original music throughout, Buzz aims to develop each child to their highest potential through drama, dance and singing.”
Children came from surrounding areas, and included a group from Acres of Love, a home focused on providing care for abandoned children and those infected with HIV/AIDS.
