Children adore Ugly Duckling

Honk Jr, the musical play performed at the National Children Theatre in Parktown, mesmerised the audience of children who had fun watching it.

Honk Jr is a modern musical adaptation of The Ugly Duckling. The play revolves around the character called Ugly, a duckling which is not quite like his brothers and sisters. Ugly searches for his identity and discovers his own true beauty and finds love and acceptance along the way.

Ugly’s mother was however very accommodating to him but tried in vain to convince her other family members to accept him.

Ugly then went missing and his mom too went away from their home in a mission to search for his son.

When she finally found him he had already been transformed into a swan. He was in the company of the swans and ready to learn their way of life.

Ugly was accepted in the circles of the swans after he had met a female swan by chance who introduced him to the group.

While away from his family, he came across the Cat, a character played Donnagh Roberts, a Craighall Park resident, who befriended him.

Cast members include Varden Dagan and Tshepo Motekase-Howard are from the Parkview Jnr School and Maia Bhundai from Roedean School in Parktown. They expressed their excitement for being part of it.

Pupils from the Knights College were enchanted by the hilarious performance.
