PARKHURST – A Metro police officer faced disciplinary action after she accidentally discharged her firearm outside a 4th Avenue restaurant.
No one was injured during the mishap.
Bistro Vine’s Daniel Vine said he heard the shot and went to the restaurant door to investigate.
“I saw the officer cock her gun as if trying to get a bullet out. Quite a few people had gathered around her. Some members of the South African Police Service spoke to the officer and her Metro police colleagues, and the Metro police then left about ten minutes after the shot was fired,” he said.
Vine said he did not see Metro police on the popular street for the rest of the day.
Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed the incident and said the officer’s firearm had been confiscated while disciplinary action was underway.
“The officer’s area commander has launched an investigation into the matter,” he said.
