Wanderers hosts half marathon

Hundreds of aspiring runners are expected to participate in this year's Wanderers half marathon, which will take place on 25 August.

The marathon consists of a 21km road race, a 10km fun run, and a 5km walk.

Organisers said the races have grown in leaps and bounds over the years. Last year’s event attracted a record of 4000 entries.

The 5km fun run has proved to be popular, with young parents pushing prams and children tagging along.

Participants will start the marathon at Wanderers in the morning and wind their way through the tree-lined suburbs of Melrose, Houghton Estate and the James & Ethel Gray Park.

At the end of the race the participants will be awarded medals, when they reach the finishing line back at the Wanderers Club. The setting there will be one of festivity, with Adidas promotions, sport prizes, a beer garden and burgers. There will also be a prize-giving ceremony where the category winners will be presented with gold medals.

Silver medals will be awarded to men and women finishing in 90 minutes and 45 minutes for the 21km and 10km races, respectively.

Sportsmans Warehouse, eBucks and Greenside High School will host race water tables and sport prizes.

Online entries are available at www.entrytime.com, pre-entries at the Sweat Shop Dunkeld, Fourways Crossing and Centurion or enter on the day from 6am.
