Meander through Magaliesberg with heritage foundation
JOBURG - Spend a day out of the city exploring Hartbeespoort Dam and surrounds with the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.
The day-long Magaliesberg Meander bus tour will include visits to the nuclear energy plant at Pelindaba, the ox wagon ring, and the memorial raised in honour of General Hendrik Schoeman.
“Time permitting, we will walk on the dam wall with its arch modelled on the more famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris,” said foundation spokesperson Eira Bond.
“There will be time for a bit of shopping or browsing in the fleamarkets. Thereafter we drive via the Anglo Boer War blockhouse to Kosmos, for a visit to the Chris Tugwell gallery… as well as a scenic walk.”
Should there be time, the tour will also stop at a small Voortrekker cemetery in Broederstroom on the way back to Joburg.
Bond said that sightseers should wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen, hats, and a packed lunch or cash for something to eat at one of the many restaurants near the dam.
Booking is essential, as space is limited.
The tour will take place on 28 June, and will leave from the Sunnyside Park Hotel, 2 York Road, Parktown, at 8am.
The bus will return at approximately 6pm.
