The acting national head of the Hawks, Major General Mthandazo Ntlemeza lauded the Hawks in Johannesburg for dismantling a drug-smuggling ring.
According to the South African Police Service, the Hawks raided a block of highrise flats in Berea on 6 January. They did a thorough search and arrested five men. The suspects are allegedly part of a bigger syndicate involved in the trade of drugs within the area. When the team searched the suspects’ flat they found 1kg of heroine and 500g of cocaine rocks with a street value of R375 000. When asked to produce identification documents, the suspects presented asylum papers.
The men will appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on 8 January on charges of dealing in drugs.
