Hawks prepared to cleanse the streets

JOBURG - AN EYEWITNESS, Amahle Lwazi, who lives on Percy Street in Berea was delighted after seeing five men being hauled into police vehicles on 6 January on charges of drug possession.

Reports say the suspects were caught with narcotics with an estimated street value of R400 000 at a flat in Berea. It is alleged they are involved in a sophisticated gang that specialises in drug distribution to the public. Police confiscated 1kg of heroin and 500g of cocaine.

Lwazi said, “I am happy that the Hawks are doing all that they can to ensure that we have a safe environment for our children to grow up in, we don’t need this. I am going to go to court and sing outside so they can hear me.”

Lwazi lost a son due to substance abuse and likes to keep an eye out for trouble in the area.

Captain Paul Ramaloko of the Hawks said, “We are prepared to cleanse the streets of Joburg and rid us of the plague.”

He is confident that his operations are successful and that his division is doing all they can to fight the war on illegal drugs in the region, he said.

Ramaloko added, “The suspects shall remain in our custody as there are complications with their identification.”

The suspects are due to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on 8 January.
