Potholes plague 13th Avenue in Sydenham

SYDENHAM - Residents of 13th Avenue in Sydenham have lodged numerous complaints about a particularly large pothole in the road.

The stretch between Pembroke and Raglan streets is in an awful state. A cone has been placed to warn road users of the potential danger ahead. The road has hosted it’s fair share of burst water pipes, which is undoubtedly the cause of the erosion.

Jane Silverman who lives in Roslin Street said, “I have contacted the Joburg Roads Agency several times on the matter. I can’t believe how big the

pothole is. I have contacted the Road Accident Fund as I have damaged my tyres along the avenue. I have had promises from them to come out and attend to the state of the road for weeks.”

Ward 72 councillor Steven Kruger said, “There was a burst pipe that came to my attention on 23 December 2014. The pipe was mended, however there was a significant amount of damage to the road. I am in the process of sorting the pothole out and contacting the relevant authorities.”
