Acid attacker gets his day in court

SYDENHAM - The man who allegedly threw acid at his girlfriend in a Sydenham street in November last year is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates' Court on 21 January.

Ines Antonio was attacked with acid in front of her three year-old daughter on 27 November.

The Joburg Magistrates’ Court saw it fit to deny the boyfriend, Jan Pieterse bail as he had fled the scene and was later arrested at his fathers home in Vereeniging.

The daughter sustained minor injuries as a result of the attack and her safety was deemed a concern.

Antonio sustained injuries to her face and chest. She is currently undergoing skin grafts.

Pieterse will face charges of attempted murder.
