More than 45 people attended the meeting to discuss crime in Norwood and surrounding areas.
Duncan Barker, chairman of the forum conducted the meeting with police answering questions put forward by members of the public.
Lieutenant Colonel Mathepela Hlakotsa of the Norwood Police said, “We experienced an abundance of housebreakings in the months of December and January. “Criminals are breaking into homes by derailing gates.”
Hlakotsa added that the public were not active enough when it came to informing police of criminal activity. “Our police are always patrolling the streets,” he said. “If members of the community come forward with information regarding suspicious activity we will be on the right street.”
The meeting concluded with a discussion about the recent rape and strangulation of a popular community member on 25 January in Orange Grove. The forum’s Debi Cox proposed that a march be organised in memory of the victim.
