Police have release further details following the attempted hijacking which took place at the corner of Napier and Barry Hertzog roads on the morning of 2 March.
Police said five suspects, two of which have since been arrested, attempted to hijack a Landrover Discovery which was brownish-charcoal in colour and driven by a woman. Police are awaiting a statement from the victim and said her statement would strengthen the case.
A bystander informed the police of the attempted hijacking. Police were dispatched and the police’s dog unit caught one of the suspects. Police confirmed the suspect was bitten by a dog.
It is alleged the victim drove off from the scene.

An attempted hijacking took place at the corner of Napier and Barry Hertzog earlier today.
Police have two suspects in custody, however, they need the victim of the hijacking to come forward to identify them.

Lt-Col Katlego Mogale, from the South African Police Service, said, This morning at about 8:30 members of Brixton and Gauteng K9 arrested two suspects following a shootout on Barry Hertzog in Milpark. It’s alleged that the members from Brixton were on their way to SAPS Training at Napier Avenue when they received a complaint of a hijacking on Barry Hertzog. They saw the vehicle as per description and followed it. When they tried to pull it over, the suspects sped off in a northern direction. A high speed chase ensued. The suspects then made a u turn and one suspect got out of the vehicle with a firearm. He fired shots at the police who returned fire, injuring one suspect. The suspects then jumped back onto their vehicle but we’re corned by the K9 unit forcing them to abandon their vehicle. Two suspects were arrested with one shot during the shootout. The third suspect managed to flee.
