The suspects allegedly held up two schoolchildren who were at the corner of St Georges and Innes streets in Yeoville while on their way to school.
The suspects held up the pupils with knives and robbed them of their cellphones. After the suspects fled the scene, the victims then notified the Yeoville police and a manhunt was launched in order to locate the suspects.
Constable Thabo Malatji of Yeoville police said, “I would like to congratulate my colleagues as they apprehended these suspects. We take all incidents of crime very seriously. We will continue to work round the clock in order to bring those who commit crime to book.”
The suspects, aged 31 and 32, were traced to a property on Muller Street in Yeoville where the cellphones that was stolen from the victims were recovered. They were arrested and are due to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
