According to the patrol, criminals following vehicles home from the airport have increased. Community Active Patrol advised residents to be vigilant when leaving the airport. They advise all drivers to be aware of their surroundings and to take note if a car is following you when leaving the airport. One vehicle that has been reported to be following people home is a white BMW 3 Series. Taxis, hotel transfers (for residents and tourists) and security guards at hotels need to be extremely vigilant as they can too fall victim to follow-home robberies.
Community Active Patrol also advised drivers to be extra cautious when driving through Illovo. Chaplin, Rudd and Atherstone streets have had a number of armed robberies in public spaces, driveways and basements of businesses. According to the patrol, the usual days for crimes are Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The times are generally from 10am to 11am and from 1pm to 4.30pm.
The public is urged to call and report suspicious vehicles to the patrol or to the police. A blue Polo, blue Toyota Tazz, light Blue Mercedes Benz (old box shape), silver Toyota Corolla and a white Golf GTI have been involved in recent incidents.
Another trend is jewellery and high-end watches are being favoured by criminals.
