According to reports the suspect was spotted at about 11.30am by a victim he previously held up in Parkhurst.
The alleged suspect fled when security arrived.
Parkview Police Station commander Colonel Nanda Moodley said, “The man was previously arrested in Sandton in early January, but was released due to lack of evidence.”
The suspect rides a black superbike, and wears a black helmet and black leather jacket with a white shirt.
Investor relations manager at Hyde Park, Viki Watson said Hyde Park Corner security were advised of a suspicious motorcyclist dressed in black and white inside the mall parkade.
“[The victim] called her own private security company to apprehend the man, but by the time her security arrived, the man had already left the mall,” said Watson. “Whilst Hyde Park Corner sympathises with the victim, the alleged robbery did not take place at Hyde Park Corner.
“Hyde Park Corner security are not a law enforcement agency, therefore are not authorised to apprehend civilians without an incident occurring on the property.”
Watson said the victim should have contacted the police to apprehend the alleged perpetrator. She added that the mall’s security would continue monitoring the centre and parkade for the motorcyclist.
Residents in Hyde Park and the surrounding areas are urged to contact the police if they spot the suspect.
