Your skills are needed at local schools
JOBURG - For the past 17 years, the Chev School Volunteer Project, a project of Chevrah Kadisha Social Services, has been reaching out to primary school pupils from Grade 1 to 5 and assisting them with programmes that develop literacy and language skills.
Schools which are involved in this project include Orange Grove Primary School, Lyndhurst Primary School, Houghton Primary School and a few others.
In order for Chev School to achieve their aim, volunteers need to be recruited who can assist primary school children with literacy skills development and language enrichment. In addition to language development, and enhancing reading, vocabulary and comprehension skills, the volunteers form valuable relationships with the pupils providing love, support and individual attention, which encourages improved development in every sphere, including numeracy, life skills, confidence and self-esteem.
No formal teaching qualifications are required, but the importance of this volunteer work cannot be underestimated as it also provides a stable, consistent and secure relationship for the pupils. Training is offered to prepare volunteers for the programme.
The project is also in need of additional volunteers for the schools and are currently recruiting people for participation in this very meaningful and beneficial project, particularly for the following schools:
Bramley Primary School
Johannesburg Preparatory School
Houghton Primary School
Cyrildene Primary School
Kensington Ridge Primary School
