According to Anne Hay, three women and one man driving in a black Citi Golf approached her domestic worker telling her that she could win a million rand.
“They told my worker that she could win 8 million rand by playing their lotto. She had to pick a country from their list. [After] she picked Brazil she was told that she had won 1 million rand. They then phoned another man and told my worker to talk to him on the phone,” Hay said.
Hay explained that the usual scam then ensued, “They then told my domestic worker that she must meet him at an ATM in Victory Park with her ID and bank account details.”
When Hay’s domestic worker refused, the suspects suggested she get into their car and drive to her room in Parkhurst.
“At that point a friend of hers was walking past and told her to leave these people alone as they were skelms. The friend walked away with my worker, giving her some degree of security.”
According to Hay, one of the women seemed to have a grey cataract in her left eye, which she hid with glasses.
Parkview police have urged residents to contact the police if approached by the scammers or if they see them operating.
