Gerrard Marie-Jones, a resident in Lyndhurst said, “CAP’s response times are impressive, they have foiled a number of attempted burglaries in the area and ever since they pulled into the neighbourhood, residents are feeling more secure.”
One suspect was apprehended for theft and recovery of stolen goods in Highlands North, three for trespassing and recovery of stolen goods in Kew, two for trespassing in Houghton and Highlands North, four for attempted vehicle theft in Strathavon and Melrose, four for armed robbery business and vehicle recovery in Lyndhurst, one for robbery in Sandringham and a further nine suspects were apprehended in the areas of Sandown, Melrose and Marlboro.
CAP said, “Load shedding has recently begun to increase across all areas of Johannesburg. CAP kindly asks that if your home is hit with load shedding, and as a result your alarm goes off, to please call CAP’s control room to let us know that your alarm has gone off as a result of load shedding, and not because there is an intruder on your property. This will help prevent us from deploying a CAP tactical unit unnecessarily. This way, we can focus on suspicious activity and panic alerts. Please also ensure your gates and doors are locked at all times, specifically during load shedding. Keep your panic button and your cellphone with you at all times and remember to call in suspicious activity and noises.”
Marie-Jones added, “CAP has developed a community approach when it comes to crime prevention. Residents in the areas that they [CAP] patrol are encouraged to report suspicious activity if they come across it. I believe engaging the community prevents a lot of crime and criminal activity.”
