Perjury is the falsification of information in a sworn affidavit or lying after taking an oath.
Constable Thabo Malatji said, “The suspect reported at Yeoville Police Station that she was at her residential address in Yeoville when four males wearing balaclavas entered her house at about 8pm and kidnapped her daughter.”
According to Constable Malatji, after further investigation by Yeoville police it emerged that the child had been taken by her father.
“This behaviour is unacceptable. Lying to police on a matter relating to kidnapping will not be tolerated. Negligent behaviour such as this by a parent could have resulted in a tragic event,” he said.
The woman was arrested and detained at Yeoville Police Station. She is expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ court soon.
