Excitement mounts for racer
JOBURG - Gugu Zulu is one of South Africa's most beloved racing drivers, rally champions and now an expecting dad.
The racing champion, who was married last year, is now expecting his first child with long-time love, Letshego Zulu.
He divulged to City Buzz that the happily married couple are expecting a girl and proudly showed off her beautiful and simply decorated yellow and grey nursery room.
Zulu, who is extremely excited about becoming a dad, is still highly involved in his sport – training for a number of races, both motoring and on foot.
The racer is currently racing for Volkwagen South Africa and Sasol – his main sponsors for the South African National Rally Championships.
He is currently ranked third in the championship, earning his best position in the championships only two weeks ago at the Sasol rally.
With no signs of slowing down before the arrival of his baby girl in a few months, the racer is still taking all opportunities by the horns.
“I’ve got a great opportunity coming up, to race in Paul Ricard – sports car racing, which is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Zulu.
“It will be endurance racing in a Porsche.”
The racer also expressed that the industry is a very difficult, cutthroat and expensive one, that even has Zulu, himself, fighting for sponsorship to take part in the races.
It is for this reason that he encourages all young people to study and become a leader in their field, in order to make the money that is needed for racing and enter the industry without having to rely on others.
“Motorsport is expensive and therefore limiting with many barriers and if it were not for the development programme that I was a part of in the late ’90s, I may not have been as active in the sport as I am today.”\
