How to prevent follow-home robberies

JOHANNESBURG - SECURITY company Community Active Patrol believe that a woman was followed home from a shop in Greenstone and robbed in her driveway.

The incident occurred in Grove Road, Mountain View on 15 May and the woman was robbed of various belongings by an armed suspect. The robbery took about two minutes to carry out and the suspects fled the scene in a black hatchback.

The company has advised the community on how to react if they feel they are being followed by a suspicious vehicle. “When returning home from anywhere be alert, and continually check that you are not being followed,” said the company’s statement.

“If you suspect you are being followed, do not stop or go home, rather continue driving and call the new emergency number for assistance. Also do not park in your driveway while gates or garage doors open, as you are most vulnerable in this position.

“A blue BMW registration CC42TCGP has been spotted in our neighbourhood behaving in a suspicious manner. Should you spot this vehicle please call in to the new emergency number 086 122 7227.”
