According to Parkview police spokesperson, Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha, a family returning home from church noticed that the driveway gate had been forced open. The suspects gained access to the house by smashing the kitchen door down, and once inside, ransacked the house.
They stole a safe containing IDs, passports, a hunting rifle including 308 ammunition, academic certificates, silverware, a wallet, watches and jewellery. They also took a flat screen TV and DVD player.
No arrests have been made, but investigations are underway.
“We want to reassure the public that the Parkview police are committed to creating a safe and secure environment for all residents in our precinct,” said Ramovha.
Parkview police advise that individual households co-operate with them by taking reasonable precautions such as:
- Being aware of your own safety
- Ensuring that alarm systems are activated when leaving the house
- Establishing rapport with your neighbours and building relationships of mutual trust and support
- Informing your neighbours or making arrangements for your house to be watched while you are not there so that unusual activities are noticed.
