According to Ledley Mondli, he was walking along the road when a male in his early 20s bumped into him.
Mondli said, “I have heard of people who have had their belongings stolen from them while they wait for busses and I just knew that something wasn’t right when the man walked into me.”
According to Mondli, he believes the gang targets the area because many of the pedestrians are hurrying to catch their respective transport modes home.
“I grabbed the man’s hand and he immediately tried to pull away. He made it so obvious that he had taken something from me,” added Mondli.
According to Mondli, the suspect dropped his wallet and tried to flee.
“He tried to get away and dropped my wallet. I twisted his arm and he started to shout at me. He didn’t try to hit me or do anything violent, so I let him go and he ran off,” added Mondli.
According to Mondli, he recovered his wallet and was going to report the incident to the police.
Sergeant Nurse Sanyane of Norwood police said after a previous incident when the gang targeted another individual on the same road, “This is an age-old problem throughout the country. The public needs to be aware of their surroundings and always look out for suspicious individuals. Make sure you keep your valuables stowed away safely.”
