UPDATE: 20 August 2015, 10am –FNB has released an official statement following the bomb scare.
The statement read, “FNB received a security related threat to its Bank City precinct in Johannesburg yesterday. We take such matters seriously and immediately took appropriate action to ensure the safety of our staff. Experts continue to be onsite and the situation is under control. There is no customer impact as this is limited to Bank City. All FNB branches, call centres and digital banking channels are operating normally.”
INITIAL REPORT: 20 August 2015, 7:11am – According to Gauteng Crime Alerts, the bomb squad was on site sweeping the area of any potential threats.

This incident follows another recent bomb scare which occurred at the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements at the corner of Harrison and Pritchard Streets in the Joburg CBD on 3 August, whereby the building was also evacuated.
An eyewitness said, at the time of the bomb scare on 3 August, “People were pouring out of the building as members of the police entered the building. It seemed very calm and well organised.”
