According to Constable Thabo Malatji of Yeoville police, the suspect and an accomplice went to a shop at the corner of Webb and Cavendish streets in Yeoville and pretended to be customers.
Malatji said, “The suspects pointed a firearm at a person in the shop and robbed the victim of money and a cellphone. The suspects then ran away on foot.”
According to Malatji, the police were alerted and one of the suspects was arrested with a firearm a few blocks away while the other managed to escape. Police could not specify who alerted them.
“A 9mm firearm was found in the suspect’s possession and the victim’s cellphone was recovered,” added Malatji.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
