Houghton resident drives to police station after being followed

NORWOOD - Houghton residents, Emily and Giovanni Carais were apparently followed home by four men driving a white BMW 3 Series on 28 August after dining out in Grant Avenue, Norwood.

Giovanni said, “I noticed a car start following us after my wife and I had finished dinner and were en route home from a restaurant in Norwood at about 7.30pm.

“As I was approaching my home, I became more concerned as the car had followed me for about 2km. I decided to go around the block and do a circle in order to make sure that they were following me,” he added.

Giovanni said the car increased its speed and continued to follow them. “I turned around and noticed one of the occupants of the car flash a handgun. At this stage, I was sure that we were being targeted and drove straight to the nearest police station,” he said.

“God knows what would have happened to my wife and I if they had cornered us. The public needs to exercise caution and rather be safe than sorry.”

Giovanni added that a neighbour was recently held up at gunpoint after being followed home.

Sergeant Nurse Sanyane of Norwood police said, “I am urging all members of the community to keep themselves aware of what is going on around them in case they are being followed. If you feel you are being followed rather be safe and drive to the police station near you.”
