According to the Daily Sun, the body bags were discovered in a nearby veld on 3 September. The publication also stated that residents have been complaining about private vans which have been coming to the area and dumping body bags for months.
Bloom said, “I sympathise with Yeoville residents who are horrified by the bloody mortuary bags.”
It is believed that the bags have the names and addresses of the deceased written on them, as well as some of the names of funeral parlors which residents believe are responsible for the dumping.
Bloom urged the Gauteng Health Department to investigate this illegal dumping of medical waste and to impose harsh penalties on the culprits.
Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji told the North Eastern Tribune that he was not aware of this and was still investigating the matter.
This is an ongoing story and more details will follow.
