Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela from Bramley police said, “They tied up… a family of about four members. The suspects then proceeded to take a TV and a laptop.”
One of the family members pushed the panic button during the robbery, leaving the suspects in a panic, forcing them to cut their criminal activities short and leave.
After eventually finding a way to untie themselves, they informed the police. The family had seen the robbers pull off and were able to give the details of the colour and make of the vehicle.
Police patrolling the area then alerted their counterparts in nearby areas.
Alexandra police, soon after receiving the alert, spotted a similar vehicle in Alexandra and stopped the car.
Maphakela said, “Police asked the suspects to get out of they car.”
During this time, three suspects managed to run away, however, two suspects were arrested.
The stolen items have not yet been recovered and Bramley police believe the goods were dropped off elsewhere before the suspects were tracked down.
The two suspects, aged 32 and 35, appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court and were denied bail. They will appear in court again on 8 September.
