Alleged Zoo Lake robbery gang arrested

PARKVIEW – Parkview police recently arrested four suspects who they believe are responsible for a recent spate of armed robberies in Zoo Lake and surrounding areas.

Spokesperson for Parkview Police Station, Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha, stated that two suspects were arrested on 2 October after they, with two other suspects, allegedly held a couple at gunpoint and robbed them of their jewellery and cellphones.

“With the help of the victims, the officers immediately tracked the stolen cellphones using the Find my iPhone app, leading to the arrest of the duo, aged 23 and 24, in Hillbrow. The other two managed to get away at the time,” said Ramovha.

The other two suspects were apprehended and detained on 5 October. One firearm and various jewellery items were recovered.

“We urge community members who have fallen victim to an armed robbery recently around Zoo Lake, to contact the investigating officer on the case, Detective Constable Sydwell Nkuna, to arrange for an identity parade,” said Ramovha.

The group has been charged with armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as that of suspected stolen property. They will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
