The men were unarmed, however, they threatened to attack her with a broomstick.
But bravely and together with another woman who was in the house, she ran out of the back door and into the garden of her property.
Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela from Bramley Police Station said, “The suspects then ransacked the house taking goods to the value of R15 000.”
The victim said she didn’t know how the suspects got onto the property as there were no signs of forced entry. The men had entered the home through an unlocked door, however, the external gate needed a key to open it.
Maphakela said, “The victims were unable to identify the suspects, however, they saw the suspects leaving in a blue VW polo and gave the registration number given to police.”
Detective Molepo had passed on the vehicle’s details to patrolling officers who spotted the car in Alexandra. They arrested one suspect who appeared in court on 17 November.
Maphakela said, “The suspect still remains in custody and will appear in court on 23 November.”
The plot, however, thickens as it has emerged that the the 33-year-old suspect is wanted for 12 cases in the Norwood and Sandton areas. Two of the cases are pending, but nine cases had been withdrawn and in one he was found not guilty.
Maphakela spoke about the importance of victims attending court and following through. “We appeal to the community to ensure that if a suspect has been arrested, to attend the court case and identify the suspect.”
If the victim misses court dates, the charge will be withdrawn. This means that justice will not be served, he said.
