A man in his late 20s was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Hopskins Street in Yeoville on 4 December.
According to Constable Thabo Malatji of Yeoville Police Station, the police were on a routine patrol when they received a tip-off about people smoking dagga on one of the properties in the area.
“They went to the place and when they searched people on the property, they only found a firearm on one of the tenants’ possession,” he said.
Malatji said the serial number of the firearm had been filed off.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Yeoville Police Station and is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
