The messages were written with a permanent marker on a bathroom mirror and a urinal.
Spokesperson for Hillbrow Police Station, Sergeant Mduzi Zondo confirmed the incident and said a bomb squad had been deployed to the scene.
“Our experts searched the entire mall, and also took fingerprints in the bathroom, before giving the all-clear by declaring that the area was safe,” said Zondo.
“We are still investigating further to find those responsible for writing the messages.”
A spokesperson from Killarney Mall also confirmed the incident, but stated the security protocols are in place for the protection of their customers.
“Security protocols are put in place to protect our customers, and threats of this nature are investigated immediately since the safety of our shoppers and tenants is of utmost importance,” said the spokesperson.
The that mall personnel will work with police to ensure that those responsible are brought to book.
“We regard this case of malicious damage to property as a serious offence and will work with the police in an ongoing investigation to find the responsible persons involved.”
