Sandringham police officers visited Sandringham High School on 4 February as part of their zero tolerance for drugs in schools campaign.

The newly-appointed principal of the school, Phillip du Plessis, said they were happy with the police’s visit to the school, and although they did not find any drugs, the school hopes it will send a message to the pupils.

“We want a drug-free environment and we do not want our pupils to be involved in any form of drugs. We want to prevent rather than clear,” said Du Plessis.

Lieutenant Ramonkung Thobejane of Sandringham Police Station said they will visit more schools in the area on a weekly basis to make sure that drugs are eradicated.

“This year, we will not tolerate drugs at schools. We will visit [schools] every week to search [pupils and the premises] and we will also do motivational talks in schools,” he said.

Thobejane said bullying is also another problem in schools the police will look into to make sure there is no lawlessness on school grounds.

On a side note, Du Plessis thanked the support of the teachers of the school for their support since he took over and promised that the school will be restored to its former glory.
