Domestic Watch meetings in February
ROSEBANK – Penny Steyn, founder and organiser of the Make A Difference (Mad) Domestic Watch, is once again calling on suburban residents to stand together in fighting crime and requested that housekeepers come and attend her workshops which focus on crime prevention strategies.
“Our lesson in February will be ‘Criminal cons – warnings of potential danger’,” said Steyn.
“I think too often domestics could or are sometimes blamed for being conned by criminals, but I think sometimes they just know no better.”
Steyn said the emphasis of the domestic safety lessons is to make housekeepers and domestic workers fully aware of possible dangers and which precautionary measures can be taken to prevent criminal activity from taking place where they are employed.
“It devastates me when those who don’t attend lessons don’t know any better and the results are catastrophic,” added Steyn. “Frankly, there is no room left for these special folk not to be empowered and knowledgeable about the crime con artists use.”
The lesson is accompanied by a three-page written lesson and various case studies of conning, scamming and crime will be discussed.
“The criminals either devise new methods or new clever cons to get into our properties or others’. We have to give detailed warnings of this despicable behaviour to make sure we prevent them,” Steyn concluded.
Domestic Watch meetings for the month of February will take place on the following days:
- 23 February, 10am – The War Museum, Saxonwold
- 23 February, 12pm – Rosebank Union Church, Hurlingham
- 24 February, 10am – Emmarentia Sailing Club, Emmerentia
- 26 February, 10am – St Columbia’s Church, Parkview
- 26 February, 12pm – Wesleyan Church, Craighall Park.
