Three suspects were arrested for possession of stolen property on the corner of Grace and Judith streets in Observatory at about 3pm on 16 February.
Yeoville Police Station spokesperson, Thabo Malatji, said police were on a routine patrol when they noticed a vehicle suspiciously parked next to a property in Observatory.
“On approaching the vehicle, three males were inside the vehicle and one man was [outside the vehicle] trying to jump the wall of the property. The police… asked to search the suspects in the vehicle. The fourth man escaped as soon as he noticed the police,” Malatji said.
According to Malatji, the three remaining suspects were searched, as well as the inside of the vehicle where household goods were found. “It was discovered that the property found in the car was stolen during a housebreaking in Edenvale and a docket of housebreaking and theft was registered with Edenvale Police Station.”
On further inquiry, the police also discovered that the vehicle was hijacked in Randburg earlier this year. Malatji said the suspects were arrested and detained at Yeoville Police Station.
“At the moment, the police are trying to link the suspects to other crimes in the area,” he said.
The case continues and the search for the fourth suspect is still on.
