Greenside chef accused of raping university student appears in court

GREENSIDE- A chef has been arrested after he allegedly raped a university student at his residence.

A Greenside chef has appeared in court facing a charge of rape.

The 23-year-old accused is said to have taken his colleague, a 21-year-old part-time waitress who is also a university student, to his residence where she claimed he raped her on 25 January.

According to Sergeant Llyod Ramovha, Parkview police spokesperson, the victim could not get a lift home following a night shift at the restaurant where they both work. “It is alleged the victim sustained a broken leg during the attack and was then rushed to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

“She only managed to report the incident on 12 February and police made a swift arrest of the accused shortly thereafter.”

The accused has since appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody pending further investigation. The matter is being investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences unit.

The accused will re-appear on 23 February.

Details: Parkview Police Station 011 486 5000.
