UPDATE: Taxi driver in custody after children killed in car accident
JOBURG - Following an accident which occurred along Louis Botha Avenue on 26 January which left two people dead and 21 injured, among them schoolchildren, a taxi driver has been arrested and remains in custody at Bramley Police Station.
This after the taxi driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and hit pedestrians. Eyewitnesses said some schoochildren were standing on the side of the road when the taxi crashed into another vehicle, causing the taxi to ricochet, plowing into the pedestrians.
Following the incident, the driver of the taxi fled the scene but was later arrested by Bramley police officers.
Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela of Bramley Police Station confirmed that the suspect is in custody. Maphakela said, “The suspect still remains in custody and will only appear in court on 29 February.”
