Explore Maverick Corner in Maboneng

MABONENG - Another new shopping experience in Maboneng

Maboneng is ever evolving, so make sure to visit the popular precinct and check out their new spot, Maverick Corner.

“Maverick Corner, situated on the corner of Betty and Commissioner streets, pays homage to the Mavericks who have contributed to the revitalisation of Joburg’s inner city,” said Propertuity’s marketing manager, Nyiko Chauke.

“Once a car wash and tyre business hemmed in by palisade fencing, today it’s a vibrant commercial hub in Maboneng.”

The development has been described as a high street shopping experience that complements the celebration of unique businesses within the precinct.

The shopping experience is set to include a great mix of diverse operators ranging from open air bars to a sneaker-cleaning service store, an Indian food space, Lenin’s Vodka Bar which has a great selection of vodkas, and who can resist a juice bar – Cocobel, with their delectable ice-creams and desserts.

More exciting than the diverse range of products and services available is that fact that Maboneng is taking sustainability seriously and manufactured the centre from old shipping containers.

“It is important to highlight that the containers are not a stand-alone development, actually, it’s an extension of Maverick Corner,” Chauke added.

In addition, they’re empowering entrepreneurs who sell their goods and services at markets by giving them a space from where they can retail on a daily basis.

“Most of our businesses at Maverick Corner are owner managed – which is a great thing. Soul Souvlaki started out with a stall at the Sunday Market, and has now expanded to a very reputable operator within the precinct. We also have Whippet Cycles within Maverick Corner, they buy, sell and trade in vintage steel road bicycles and they have grown within the precinct.”

The community’s favourite market retailers are becoming an integral part of the shopping experience and adding to the unique rejuvenation precinct.
