While volunteers served steaming cups of soup, others carefully handed out beanies and scarves to help people face the cold winter days ahead. What may seem like a simple gesture carried deep meaning for many standing in the queue.

The Winter Warmers Project, led by Sue Taylor and the church’s crafts and care team, has become a heartfelt tradition within the Parkview community. Each scarf and beanie was prepared with care, offering not only warmth but also comfort and dignity to those receiving them.

As customers collected their winter items, smiles slowly spread across faces that reflected both hardship and gratitude. Several recipients quietly shared how much the project means to them, especially during winter when the cold becomes even more difficult to endure.
For the volunteers, the morning was about more than handing out clothing and soup. It was about creating a space where people feel acknowledged, welcomed and cared for.
In the middle of another winter, the small acts of kindness shared at St Columba’s served as a reminder that compassion still has the power to bring people together.
