Taxi driver killed in road rage incident in Yeoville

YEOVILLE – Taxi driver punched to death in a road rage incident.

A taxi driver was killed in Yeoville on 30 March on the corner of Cavendish and Raleigh roads after an argument ensued between another taxi driver and a motorist.

According to Constable Thabo Malatji of Yeoville Police Station, the incident occurred around 5pm, between a taxi driver and a sedan driver.

“They stopped on the road as the argument continued between the two and more taxi drivers arrived and the argument heated up,” Malatji said.

However, Malatji said police officers arrived and were able to stop the fight and the taxi driver, who had a fight with the sedan driver, left the scene.

“As the police were about to leave, another taxi driver argued with the sedan driver. The sedan driver punched him and he collapsed. The sedan driver left the scene,” said Malatji.

The punched taxi driver was rushed to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital where he was announced dead on arrival.

It is unclear how the taxi driver passed away from being punched, or whether or not it was multiple punches or a single punch.
