Brains, beauty – and she cooks!

PARKHURST – See which big foodie is making a big change in the community.

There’s a Parkhurst resident making the community a better place and you will want to find out how she is doing this.

Izelle Hoffman is a fitness fanatic and a lover of good food.

She was born with congenital hip dysplasia, but this has never stopped her in her pursuit of good food recipes and looking great!

“I grew up with a love for the outdoors, growing vegetables and working in the garden so I have some green fingers, I think,” said Hoffman.

Being born with the condition had many implications in her life, one of which is that she cannot weigh more than 56 kilograms because the weight puts a strain on her hips – but it’s also what has kept her trying to reinvent healthy food for herself and keeping fit in the gym.

Once leaving her small-town home just outside Warmbaths, the farm girl made her way to the city to study.

“I moved to Gauteng when I turned 19 to study at Tuks (University of Pretoria). I worked full-time and studied marketing management because with a marketing degree you have to understand the practical side of things.”

Also being involved in charities since matriculating, the healthy helper has always had her mind on helping others.

“As soon as you focus on what you have got, rather than what you don’t have, you always see things positively.”

She started a charity called I’Mpossible in 2014 and aims to use it as a platform to allow disadvantaged children realise their dreams and potential.

They have held a number of campaigns to help children develop their talents in sports and agriculture, among other things.

As food is her main business venture, Hoffman began writing recipes in high school to create healthy and delicious dishes for herself.

She’s been associated with a number of food businesses such as Fitchef and recently, Fraiche, the online fresh food programme.

With health on her brain, she loves to dine at Cnr Café in Joburg North and Rhapsody’s in Centurion, where she’s designed a specialised menu.

“Eating healthy and maintaining a healthy life is what I’ve always been about, all my life,” she concluded.
