Yeoville officers’ efforts sees armed robbery suspect convicted

YEOVILLE – Officers successfully bring suspect to justice following robbery ordeal in Yeoville.

Two Yeoville officers were recently hailed for their effort in bringing an armed robbery suspect to justice at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ court last week.

The suspect, James Mncube was recently convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on 27 September for his involvement, along with three other men, in robbing a woman of her two cellphones and cash using a firearm and pepper spray.

Captain Sifiso Mabizela, spokesperson for the Yeoville Police Station, explained how the officers, Constable Goodwill Nemukula and Constable Ntokozo Mbhele, managed to nab the suspect following the incident. “The two officers were busy patrolling along Durban road and Hendon street in the area when they came across the complainant, who proceeded to point out and give a full description of the assailants.”

The officers then called for back-up and chased after the suspects, managing to catch one in the process. Mncube was then arrested and detained at the Yeoville Police Station, where he was charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances.

His case then went to trial before concluding with a successful conviction, which Mabizela accredited to the two officers, along with the investigating officer, Detective Seargent Eric Moabelo, who also worked on the case.

“A job well-done to all the officers involved in getting justice for the victim; we also appeal to community members to always give a full description of the perpetrators, the direction [they ran in] and any distinctive features when reporting a case to the police,” Mabizela concluded.
